Hello! Dave's Geek Tools is dedicated to making HeroQuest more accessible to everyone who loves this classic game. Here you'll find our flagship HeroQuest Character Sheet (which we believe is the world's best), along with a Monster Bestiary, Name Generator, Treasure Tracker, and other tools designed to enhance your gameplay.

Our site is built with accessibility in mind—clean interfaces, touch-friendly controls, and tools that work for players of all ages and skill levels.

We're also committed to teaching youth programming skills. So sometimes you may see an odd little tool pop up that seems like a small thing—but that little tool might have sparked a huge boost in someone's confidence or taught them a new coding concept. Every tool on this site serves a purpose, whether it's enhancing your HeroQuest experience or helping someone learn to build something meaningful on the web.

How your data is stored

Where are my heroes saved?

Only in this browser on this device. Nothing is sent to a server, so we can't recover a hero for you, and a hero saved on your phone won't show up on your laptop.

What does the storage badge mean?

Browsers store website data as "best effort" by default: when the device runs low on space, they may clear it without asking. A site can ask the browser to keep its data until you delete it yourself (persistent storage). The badge at the bottom of the page shows the browser's answer:

• Storage protected: the browser agreed. Your heroes won't be cleared to free up space.
• Storage not protected yet: your heroes are saved, but the browser hasn't agreed to keep them. This is normal for a site you've just started using.
• Storage protection blocked: protection was turned off for this site in your browser's settings.
• Storage not protected: your browser can't protect site data.

Why wasn't protection granted?

Each browser decides differently. Chrome and Edge never show a prompt; they grant protection on their own, based on how you use the site (for example, if you've bookmarked or installed it, or visit it often). Firefox asks you, and we only ask after you've saved a hero or pressed Ask browser to protect in the badge. Safari also decides on its own and is most likely to grant it to sites added to the Home Screen; for other sites, it can delete their data if you haven't used them in 7 days.

How can I keep my heroes safe?

• Bookmark this site or install it (Install app, or Add to Home Screen).
• On iPhone and iPad, add this site to your Home Screen. Home Screen apps are exempt from Safari's 7-day limit.
• Keep a backup: on the Online Character Sheet page, select your heroes and use Save to download a file. Use Load to bring them back, on this device or another one.
• Clearing your browsing data or "site data" for this site deletes your heroes, even when storage is protected.
